Christmas Wonder

Christmas Wonder

John 1:14 (KJV)

“And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, as of the only begotten of the Father)…” – John 1:14 (KJV)

The Christmas Story is taken from the beautiful and majestic prologue from the Gospel of John.  In this way, we are able to receive the true impression of the meaning of Christmas as seen in the eternal Word. It is the Word that came to live among us as our “life” and “light” (Verse 4). The transforming power of this Word enables us to become sons and daughters of God by receiving the revelation of God in Christ, the eternal Word.

John 1:1-2 reveals three truths about the Word (Jesus):

  1. He did not have to be created when the Earth was brought into being.
  2. He was already there.
  3. He, as a person, existed at the beginning.

Therefore, “the Word was made flesh.”

“The Word” is a title for Jesus found exclusively in John’s gospel. John’s revelation to call Jesus ‘the Word’ is a brilliant communication of the truth about Christ. The Word is the means by which God communicates with humanity so that in Jesus, we can find the meaning of the world and our lives in it.

When Mary gave birth to a son, she brought a baby with the same adequacies and inadequacies that every baby has – He was flesh. John saw Him as a man and wanted us to know He was “Man,” but He was the perfect (sinless) man, sensitive to all the important issues of life. The Word (Jesus) cannot be compared with ANY creative person, thing, or god in the world. He is truly unique. He uses the most common ones that aren’t any different from any of us, and He comes in the most common of ways: a young woman was chosen to be the mother of His Son.

The undisputed fact of history is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, lived on this Earth, died for the sins of humanity, and was resurrected from the dead. The world’s greatest hope today is that He who once dwelt among us is coming again, and we must be ready.

Jesus’ birth is much more than a ‘Christmas Story’. His birth reveals our Father’s loving character, while His humility is demonstrated in a unique way: His plan of Salvation.  Jesus was born to die and is coming again. One day, we will all behold His glory and experience a momentous transformation (1 John 3:2). We shall be like Him!

Prayer

Father, Your gifts are priceless. You gave Your son, Jesus, to save us, and Your motivation was love. I pray that the gifts I give others will come from the overflow of my heart and echo the great love You have for all Your children. Amen.
